S E V I E R C O U N T Y O R G A N I Z A T I O N F O R P E A C E & E Q U A L I T Y EPF/SCOPE EPISCOPAL PEACE FELLOWSHIP
Our Mission
Our mission is to develop a community pledged to peace, justice, equality reconciliation,
and nonviolence. Are we opposed to war? Yes. But our mission is broader than that. EPFISCOPE alms to aid and
encourage nonviolence through education, conflict-resolution, government, religious tolerance, human rights,
racial understanding, and much more.
How EPF / SCOPE Began
In early 2003, a handful of local citizens were searching for forum in which they could
openly express their frustrations and hopes for the community. This diverse group approached the pastor at St.
Joseph the Carpenter Episcopal Church, who responded with interest and offered the church as a meeting place.
Soon thereafter the war began, and their concerns broadened to include national and world events.
God's Way
The group believes that a peaceful and
compassionate way is God's way. We seek an end to racism, sexism,
and economic injustice. With this in mind, the Sevier County Organization
for Peace and Equality in conjunction with the Episcopal Peace Fellowship
was formed.
Diversity
People of all races, genders, cultures, and particularly of all faiths are welcome. By
including everyone, we make a place where diversity is embraced and understood, respected and tolerated, creating
a microcosm of an ideal America.

Inspiring Speakers
Our small, newly-formed group has already brought several impressive speakers to the
community These visitors delivered inspiring and insightful messages about peace. Our speakers have included the
sister of a victim of 911, a government official with direct connections to the White House, and a Native American
Episcopal Priest and peace activist who studied with Martin Luther King, Jr.
Working for the Community
EPFISCOPE members are working to deliver these insightful messages of nonviolence to the
community through education. We are learning Spanish in order to extend the hand of peace to our neighbors. The
group also plans to focus on environmental stewardship programs.
